Tagging with librarything.com

There are so many children's books being published now. Are all of them good books? Definitely not! When searching for quality children's literature, one can go to librarything.com to see how others have tagged different books. A tag is a label added by someone to describe the book. I searched for items tagged with children's literature. I found a children's book I highly recommend called The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. I chose the cloud for this book because it is a great story for a teacher, especially an art teacher, to read aloud to children. I was interested to see if others like the book too. Here is the tag cloud.

What is new with Esme? RSS Feed

Teacher, writer, librarian and self-described readiologist, Esme Raji Codell, has a wonderful blog about children's literature. Her blog includes reviews and links to children's books. This is a great resource for teachers and parents. I have included a rss feed so you can see what is new on Esme's blog. You can also see her website at http://www.planetesme.com/.

Children's Literature Podcasts

As an aspiring elementary school librarian, I think it is important to have many resources regarding books for children. Children (like adults) learn in different ways and print is definitely not the only way to find information. I used Google.com to search for podcasts about children's literature. There are many websites with podcasts about children's literature and authors of children's books so I will discuss the two I liked best.

StoryNory
One of them is http://www.storynory.com/. At storynory, students can listen to stories and read the text at the same time. There are many stories to choose from. There are fairy tales, original stories and educational stories. Children can listen to stories and leave comments. And the stories are read by a woman named Natasha, who has a charming British accent.

Children's Book Radio
Another website, http://www.childrensbookradio.com/ has interviews with authors. Children can listen to the podcast interviews for information about their favorite authors. Share these sites with children that you know.

Children's literature Blogs

If you are interested in children's literature, there is a blog called Chicken Spaghetti that is all about books for kids. There are posts about authors as well as posts divided into categories. I found the site by searching on Google and I like it. It is also kid friendly with links to author's websites, so children at school could use this blog to find information about their favorite author. There are also recommendations about books for adults as well as children. Another great thing about the blog is that is contains links and notes to other people's blogs. This blog will benefit school librarians and teachers as well. Check it out: http://chickenspaghetti.typepad.com/chicken_spaghetti/

What is it all about?

This blog is about my quest to become a school librarian. Future postings will cover different competencies required for LS5013. I am interested in becoming a school librarian and I want to be able to recommend books and websites to students as well as teachers. I will concentrate my postings within the field of children's literature.
